The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is committed to changing this reality. Through our Maternal and Child Health (MCH) centres, we provide essential care and support to women and children at every stage of life; from pregnancy and childbirth to infancy and early childhood.
Healthy mothers and children are the foundation of a strong, thriving society. Yet in Bangladesh, many women and children, especially those living in rural, disaster-prone, or underserved communities, face serious barriers to accessing quality health care. Limited medical facilities, lack of skilled birth attendants, malnutrition, and preventable diseases continue to put lives at risk.
The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is committed to changing this reality. Through our Maternal and Child Health (MCH) centres, we provide essential care and support to women and children at every stage of life; from pregnancy and childbirth to infancy and early childhood.
A safe and healthy pregnancy requires more than just medical attention during delivery. It begins with quality antenatal care that can identify and address complications early. Our MCH centres offer regular check-ups, screenings, and counseling for expectant mothers. We ensure they have access to skilled birth attendants who can provide safe and respectful care during delivery.
We also educate mothers on nutrition, breastfeeding, hygiene, and family planning so they are empowered to make informed health decisions for themselves and their children. Special outreach services are provided for women in remote areas who cannot easily reach a clinic.
The first five years of a child’s life are critical for growth and development. At our MCH centres, we provide immunizations, growth monitoring, and treatment for common childhood illnesses. Our staff work with parents to ensure children receive the nutrition and care they need to thrive.
We also focus on preventing illness before it starts. Hygiene promotion, safe water access, and health education are integrated into all our services, helping reduce the spread of diseases that claim the lives of too many young children in Bangladesh.
Disasters and crises make maternal and child health even more vulnerable. Floods, cyclones, or displacement can cut off access to healthcare facilities, increase the risk of malnutrition, and expose mothers and children to unsafe living conditions. In such situations, our mobile health teams deliver essential maternal and child health services directly to affected areas, including emergency obstetric care and nutrition support.
Our approach goes beyond medical treatment. We work closely with communities to address the social and economic factors that affect maternal and child health. This includes engaging community health volunteers, training midwives, and raising awareness among fathers, families, and local leaders about their role in supporting women and children’s health.
Partnerships with the Ministry of Health, local governments, and other humanitarian organizations help us reach more people and deliver high-quality services.
