Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), disaster response is central to our humanitarian mission. As an auxiliary to the Government of Bangladesh and a part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, we are uniquely positioned to respond quickly, effectively, and compassionately
Bangladesh is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. Every year, millions of people face the devastating impacts of floods, cyclones, river erosion, and landslides. In this high-risk environment, fast and coordinated disaster response is essential not only to save lives but also to restore dignity and hope.
At the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), disaster response is central to our humanitarian mission. As an auxiliary to the Government of Bangladesh and a part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, we are uniquely positioned to respond quickly, effectively, and compassionately.
When a disaster strikes, every minute matters. BDRCS activates its emergency response mechanism as soon as an alert is received. Our trained volunteers and staff work around the clock to provide urgent relief, including food, clean water, shelter, hygiene items, and emergency medical care.
With strategically pre-positioned relief supplies across the country, we can reach affected areas even when they are cut off by floodwaters or landslides. Our Disaster Response Units (DRUs) are equipped to work under extreme conditions. In coordination with the Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP), we also assist in early warning dissemination and evacuation support.
Relief is just the beginning. Recovery is where long-lasting change takes place. BDRCS helps disaster-affected families rebuild homes, restore livelihoods, and regain control over their lives. We provide shelter repair assistance, cash grants for essential needs, and the reconstruction of water and sanitation facilities.
Psychosocial support is also a critical part of recovery. Many survivors face emotional trauma and uncertainty about the future. Our teams offer mental health support to individuals and families so that healing can begin not only physically but emotionally as well.
We place communities at the center of every recovery initiative. Local participation helps ensure that solutions are inclusive, culturally appropriate, and sustainable. Special attention is given to the needs of women, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.
BDRCS believes that disasters should not just be responded to, but prepared for. That is why we invest in building the resilience of at-risk communities. We train local volunteers in disaster preparedness, early warning systems, search and rescue, and first aid. Families and institutions are supported to develop their own preparedness plans.
Through our community-based disaster risk reduction (CBDRR) programs, we help people reduce the risks they face every day. We also collaborate with government agencies and partners to strengthen national disaster coordination, logistics, and early action systems.
